CNC wood slab milling

Prepare a slab for a table, countertop, desk or architectural installation.

Wide slabs and glued hardwood panels may contain bow, twist, cupping or uneven thickness that makes joinery, sanding and installation more difficult.

CNC surfacing removes material using a controlled tool path to establish a flatter reference face. The opposite face can then be machined toward a more consistent thickness.

Do you sell live-edge wood slabs?
No. 865FabLab provides CNC milling and surfacing for customer-supplied slabs, table tops and countertops.
Can CNC surfacing correct a warped or cupped slab?
CNC flattening can correct many forms of bow, twist and cupping by removing high areas. Feasibility depends on the severity and remaining thickness.
Can you surface butcher-block or hardwood countertops?
Yes. Removable countertops and butcher-block-style workpieces can be reviewed for flattening, surfacing, trimming and hardware preparation.
Can you preserve the natural live edge?
Often, yes. Mark the edges that must remain untouched and include photographs before delivery.
Can you machine channels for an epoxy river table?
Suitable slabs can be reviewed for epoxy channels, pockets and selected leveling operations.
Can you drill holes or recesses for table legs?
Mounting holes, leg-plate recesses and selected underside features can be added from approved dimensions or hardware.
Does the slab need to be dry?
The slab should be properly dried and acclimated before final machining. Wood may move again as moisture changes.
How do I know whether my slab fits your equipment?
Send maximum length, width and thickness with clear photographs. Confirm capacity before transporting the slab.
Will the slab be ready for finish after CNC surfacing?
CNC machining normally leaves tool marks that require progressive sanding before final finish.
Can you surface several slabs to matching thicknesses?
Matching pieces can be reviewed together. Provide the dimensions and target thickness for every piece.
